Week 1 of 52

I’m totally getting this is under the wire.  But it counts!  What a way to start a challenge.  I kept thinking there was something I needed to do, something around the house, and I couldn’t put my finger on it.  While trying to remember I needed to blog, I got the fridge cleaned out (no, that wasn’t it), took down the holiday cards and put the kids artwork up (still something missing), cleared off the door (which is our version of a refrigerator, lots of papers and magnets and general flotsam), and put in a few billable hours.

But I remembered.  And here it is, our very uneventful week in living color.

We got sick of not being able to garden other than cutting down a few of the giant cabbage plants left over from the fall, so we started sprouting onions and celery in the window.  Zane was inspired so we’re starting an apple seed he saved from his lunch too.

We’re adjusting to life with Charlie Bucket, aka Lord Puppydon who exacts great revenge on any Ninjago men he finds around the house.  I’ve been taking him for a mile long hike in the mornings trying to wear him out a bit, and I don’t think it’s working.  As Ryan pointed out, I’m not tiring him out, I’m getting him in shape.

I saw this How to Make Cleaning Wipes and was inspired to make some myself.  Only I’m using rags rather than paper towels.  (‘Cause really, why use disposable when there’s a washable option.)  So far they’ve been super convenient and helpful especially since both Charlie and Ferris are potty training at the moment.

Yes, Ferris is working on a diaper-free lifestyle.  We can’t convince him to wear underpants so he’s been going commando when we go out.  And pantsless at home. Preschool is apparently underpants optional.  Pants are mandatory, but what you put under them is your business.  He went all day yesterday without an “oops.”  And that was with a two hour trip to Target and the pet store.  We’re still doing diapers at nap and bed, and probability rock them on long car trips, but otherwise we’re on our way to being done with diapers.  Sigh, my babies aren't babies anymore.

Ryan hasn’t been on too many rides this week, and I haven’t run much since it’s so cold and usually wet or icy.  But we’ve been making fair use of our Y membership and started a weekly habit of taking the kids to swim every Friday too.

Oh, and we’ve been reading a bit from this every night:

Zane thinks it’s hysterical.
